Dining & Sustainability

Hokie, Hokie, Hokie, Hi!

llc

You’ll hear that phrase a lot at summer orientation. Have you signed up yet? If not, now is the time. First-Year Orientation offers 13 sessions over a four-week period in July (the weeks of July 10, 17, 24, and 31). Your specific orientation session is based on your academic major, so you may have fewer than 13 session dates from which to choose. Registration is open so don’t delay. It’s time to get your gobble on!

7.1 Million meals served per year, 74,000 lbs flank steak served

With 47 different venues in our 11 locations, our dining program is consistently ranked among the top in the nation in food, facilities, and services by national polls. In 2016, Niche named Virginia Tech number one in the nation for Best College Food. The Princeton Review ranked us number one—three times—in the same category. It’s not just us. Hokies from coast to coast think our food is perfection.

48000 lbs of produce harvested by dining services farm in 2015, 2200 people employed on campus, 80% of students have dining plan, VT is #1 for best campus food

The crowd favorites:

  • Chicken Parm at Owens Food Court
  • Spicy Asian Chicken Wrap at West End Market
  • Gelato at Turner Place
  • Brunch at D2
  • Chick-fil-A at Hokie Grill (Yes. You read that right. Chick-fil-A on your dining plan. Anyone craving some Chick-n-Minis?)
  • Milkshakes from Burger ‘37
  • Any of the delicious local fare from Farms and Fields at Owens Food Court
  • Phrappuccinos at Deet’s Place
  • Anything at 2 a.m. at DXpress—it’s open that late every night, so make sure you stop by for an all-nighter study break.
  • Vegetarian and Gluten Free options

Truly, everything tastes amazing. Forget all those preconceived notions of nasty cafeteria food. You won’t miss homecookin’ here. (Maybe you will a little bit. But that’s what breaks are for!)

We’re big fans of students.

We champion their voices and listen to their feedback through Table Talk and our Student Advisory Committee.

Before you get here, check out our dining plans and policies. It’ll give you a breakdown of the plans available and features an interactive plan advisor. If you’re living on campus, your plan will automatically default to the Major Flex Plan, so make sure you upgrade that if you plan on ordering steak and grande double mochachinos all day, every day.

Got an allergy?

That doesn’t intimidate our dining staff! You’ll be super impressed by all our options for students with special diets.

Heard of the “freshman 15”? We’ll help you avoid it. All our menus are online, backed by their nutritional information. Check out these FAQs to learn more.

Two administrative dietitians are on staff if you need assistance for special dietary needs. Shoot them an email at yes@vt.edu.

Green beans in the kitchen

Looking for a job? Dining Services is the largest employer for students on campus—in fact, they hire more than 1,600 students just like you. Added perk: you'll get a free meal each shift you work!

We love sustainability and eating local.

  • Our six-acre farm provides produce and herbs year-round for use in our dining centers.
  • Reusable To-Go containers available at many of our dining centers reduce waste and encourage sustainability. You can also ask for a compostable to-go container for a small fee.
  • We serve beef, pork, and lamb raised on Virginia Tech farmland and milk from the university dairy herd in the dining centers.
  • Read about current and upcoming projects on the Farms and Fields Project blog, and eat at the Farms and Fields Project at Owens Food Court!

Food Frucks

Newest additions to our dining presence? Two food trucks! Check out Periodic Table and The Grillfield. Asian-fusion and Latino-fusion meals on wheels? Yes. Please.
