Beyond the Classroom
Your Keystone Experience

Hokie, Hokie, Hokie, Hi!

You’ll hear that phrase a lot at summer orientation. Have you signed up yet? If not, now is the time. First-Year Orientation offers 13 sessions over a four-week period in July (the weeks of July 10, 17, 24, and 31). Your specific orientation session is based on your academic major, so you may have fewer than 13 session dates from which to choose. Registration is open so don’t delay. It’s time to get your gobble on!

We want you to do more, be more, and aspire to become your best self through our Aspirations for Student Learning.

  • Commit to unwavering CURIOSITY
  • Practice CIVILITY
  • Prepare for a life of COURAGEOUS LEADERSHIP and
  • Embrace UT PROSIM (That I May Serve) as a way of life.
Everything we do is designed to point you toward a better understanding of these Aspirations, which, in turn will help you better understand yourself.

Now…we know what you’re thinking. “Whoa, whoa, whoa, DSA. That’s a lot to live up to. How will I keep track of all I learn and all I do at Virginia Tech?” Funny you should ask.

Your Keystone Experience will help you explore, practice, and live the Aspirations for Student Learning. It provides ways to record and reflect on your out-of-classroom experiences, and it gives you the opportunity to use the Aspirations to define and find yourself.

Our inaugural cohort of Keystone Fellows are shining examples of what your Keystone Experience could look like, but it’s all about self-authorship and discovery—so get ready to create your own Keystone Experience!
